Home Speedpaints Process Work

The terminer - a roughly fifteen by fifteen mile island off the southern coast of Khiheil. It is notable even from a distance, for its odd pillars and rock formations, and its strange red sheen. Though once an infallible empire, the Khiheili kingdom is nonetheless a powerful nation, and this island is it's hidden gem, and a bastion of the industrial era.

What makes the terminer so valuable is the glossy red rock it is constructed of. A rare and invaluable minerable known as tincture, which must be harvested and refined in liquid form before it is cast. After its discovery near the end of the empires golden age, every discovered crop of tincture on land was picked clean by the emperor and his men. The largest remaining body of tincture left can be found here at the mines, under the strict supervision of the most immortal King and His men.

The mines can only be occupied in the coldest months of the year, when the warm summer rains have ceased and the water draws in upon itself. It is then that workers are shipped out to the curtilage, a stilted dormitory artificially posted between the coast and the terminer itself. Peasants with outstanding dues to their abbot are often the first to register for the grueling, six month tenure - though the work is horribly isolating, it is Good nonetheless.
The curtilage is a cold building. It's residence halls are furnished to withstand the wet stone and metal, and most things are fitted with a fine sheet of plastic to protect fabric from mold. The first two weeks in which the mine is being reactivated are often quite busy in these halls, as tapstries to keep out the cold are installed and posters of the King's decree are reapplied.
The island itself forms a neat ring, with an artificial opening facing the inland-side. There, three kinds of boats make their way to the terminer docks: passenger ships bringing workers from the curtilage, small rowboats ferrying folk from the docks to the mines, and Cogs which bring in food and supply and ship full tankards back to the mainland.

On the western coast, there lies a beached creature - the rotting corpse of a dragon. These creatures are few and far between, some of the final dregs left of a time before Kings, in which gods answered prayers and giants walked the earth with mortal man.

Purveyance or Prise follows a Brig squadron deployed by the King to cleanly dissect radioactive organs from the beached dragon and return with them to the capitol, so that He might consume them in his quest to ascend to godhood.

Though the mission seems simple in its premise, dissecting the organs is a much more arduous process than originally intended, particularly when other strange creatures are drawn to the strange smell of it's corpse. And of course, not all of these creatures take kindly to the desecration of a gods corpse. With the weather getting worse and no contact from the mainland, the squadron must balance the safety of the mines, the enemy beasts, and their own lives with their original task.

Brig soldiers themselves are special form of knight specifically commissioned by the King, with the intent of slaying, guarding or retrieving remnants of the old world and it's magic for His sake. A brig unit consists of eight members: four scouts, three tank officers, and one warden.

Save for the warden, who has no need to involve himself in physical combat, brig soldiers are dressed in specially commissioned armor made of tincture. Unfortunately, however, a full set can only be afforded to the tank officers. Instead, scouts are assigned only the most crucial pieces, whereas the rest of their uniform prioritizes maneuverability. Beneath the striking red armor, soldiers are dressed in tight white linen and linothorax, so that their warden might notice if they are bloodied.

In the brig order, soldiers are only prescribed one uniform. Older soldiers can usually be picked out from newer ones, as their uniforms tend to have yellowed and stained. Should a fellow brig soldier die, it is mandatory that his companions should retrieve his armour at all costs, lest there is only one soldier remaining in which case he should prioritize returning to the King.

To be a warden is a high ranking position, and a land-owning one at that. After all, wardens are entrusted with the Kings most important secrets. They are made privy to History itself, as well as given full briefs of past, present and future assignments. In return for this sacred information, their tongues are lobbed off and their mouts are gagged. No longer can they enjoy solid foods or harsh consonants, but must instead communicate in the Kings sign. Tank officers are then trained to interpret the wardens, who pass his orders on down to the scouts.
